A training game can do things a year’s training can’t!

This is a caption we read somewhere in a book and firmly vouch by it. As any professional trainer can tell you, getting a team to do something they really don’t want to do is almost impossible! People will resign and even change their careers rather than do something they don’t like.

Psychology says that the actual reason people don’t do the things they don’t like is because they are prejudiced against it and don’t even want to try it. Now, if we are able to get them to try the task without telling them that this is a test, chances are that most of the people will get to like it! That is where a training game comes in.

Instead of telling your team that there is a whole new process coming in, get them to participate in a training game where a crucial part of their team’s success will depend on performing well in that particular new process, and see them fight each other trying to outdo the other teams! Once they do that through team spirit and enjoy the task, it is much easier for you to break the news on them that their role is going to change. When you think about it, it makes perfect sense, doesn’t it?

The next time you are faced with a challenge like that, try a training game. It could just work!
